Program entrance requires a piano audition (in person or recording) which should demonstrate exposure to a wide variety of styles and represent the learner as an artist with advanced musical sensibilities, technical accomplishment, and stylistic awareness.

To obtain the Artist Certificate, admitted learners must successfully complete, with a 70% (B) minimum overall average, the following coursework (total 3.0 FCEs):

  • Music 3951 - Piano Pedagogy and Teaching Techniques 0.5 FCE
  • Music 4900 - Artistic Training (Performance Lessons) 1.0 FCE
  • Music 4952 - Professional Development (Recital)0.5 FCE
  • Music 4953 - Collaborative Performance (Supervised Performance Project) 0.5 FCE
  • One-half FCE elective in Music at the third or fourth-year level 0.5 FCE
