Lifelong Learning

Lifelong learning is a form of self-initiated education that is focused on personal development, and pursuing special interests, and passions.

Lakehead University offers innovative programs, continuous learning courses, and community lectures in support of the interests and needs of our communities.

In this workshop, Early Mushroom Species Identification and Exploration participants will learn to identify mushrooms by examining spore colour, gill attachment, and growth substrate. We will learn to appreciate not only the incredible variety of early mushrooms but also the ways in which mushrooms support and communicate within an inter-relational, networking ecosystem.

Humanities 101 is a community-based outreach program which ensures that community members who have a love of learning have access to a university-level educational experience despite financial or social barriers.

Building on Humanities 101, Humanities 201 allows for graduates of Humanities 101 to continue their lifelong learning journey and remain connected to a supportive community as alumni of a Lakehead University ancillary program. Programming involves two events per semester. In the recent past, we have had events addressing food security, health, and Indigenous cultures.
