Lakehead University's Faculty of Education provides relevant, high-quality professional development courses that cover many education-based topics. Our goal is to provide meaningful, lifelong learning to certified teachers, education students, and the general public. We offer a wide variety of professional development opportunities that meet the needs of teachers and learners at every stage of their career and education. Each professional development opportunity falls into a specific category based on its requirements, awarded qualifications, and subject matter.

The purpose of Additional Basic Qualification (ABQ) courses is to expand your knowledge of program development, delivery, and assessment in a specific division. ABQ courses allow you to advance your teaching skills by adding knowledge of another division or subject to your teaching qualifications.

Additional Qualification (AQ) courses allow certified teachers to expand their knowledge and skills in qualified divisions and subjects or to develop new knowledge in a specific area. Our AQ courses provide you with different qualification options depending on your teaching experience and past professional development. Our AQ courses can lead to the following qualifications: Single Session Qualification, Part 1 Qualification, Part 2 Qualification, Specialist Qualification. *Special Price for Spring 2024: Special Education Part 1, $575.

The Principal’s Qualification Program (PQP) is a two-part program that is accredited by the Ontario College of Teachers. Our PQP prepares experienced teachers for elementary and secondary school principalships in Ontario public and Catholic school boards.
