The Artist Certificate in Performance and Pedagogy involves selective, intensive, and advanced professional piano studies designed to enhance the performance skills of talented musicians.
The program consists of a balance of applied music, masterclasses, collaborative performance, a public recital, and selected academic courses.
Registration is available through Enrolment Services.
Program entrance requires a piano audition (in person or recording) which should demonstrate exposure to a wide variety of styles and represent the learner as an artist with advanced musical sensibilities, technical accomplishment, and stylistic awareness.
To obtain the Artist Certificate, admitted learners must successfully complete, with a 70% (B) minimum overall average, the following coursework (total 3.0 FCEs):
- Music 3951 - Piano Pedagogy and Teaching Techniques 0.5 FCE
- Music 4900 - Artistic Training (Performance Lessons) 1.0 FCE
- Music 4952 - Professional Development (Recital)0.5 FCE
- Music 4953 - Collaborative Performance (Supervised Performance Project) 0.5 FCE
- One-half FCE elective in Music at the third or fourth-year level 0.5 FCE
