Centre for Health Care Ethics Announces 2024-25 Encounters in Bioethics Series

The Centre for Health Care Ethics is thrilled to announce the upcoming dates for the 2024-25 Encounters in Bioethics series, starting with the first webinar in the series, Bioethics 101: Trust and Ethics in Healthcare Delivery. The Encounters in Bioethics Program is essential to the Centre for Health Care Ethics’ mission to foster high-quality, ethical health care through research, education, and capacity building.

The series will kick off with the Bioethics 101 webinar on September 26, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. This session will delve into how principles of bioethics, such as respect for autonomy and beneficence, shape trust in healthcare. It will also explore the role of trustworthiness in the ethical delivery of healthcare, understanding trustworthiness as a virtue in medicine, and reflections on trustworthiness as a collective action duty. Strategies for being trustworthy and gaining patient trust will also be discussed.

The webinar will be presented by Ryan Tonkens, PhD, a bioethicist at the Lakehead University Centre for Health Care Ethics, Associate Professor at NOSMU, and Adjunct in the Department of Philosophy at Lakehead University.
