The purpose of Additional Basic Qualification (ABQ) courses is to expand your knowledge of program development, delivery, and assessment in a specific division. ABQ courses allow you to advance your teaching skills by adding knowledge of another division or subject to your teaching qualifications.

Additional Qualification (AQ) courses allow certified teachers to expand their knowledge and skills in qualified divisions and subjects or to develop new knowledge in a specific area. Our AQ courses provide you with different qualification options depending on your teaching experience and past professional development. Our AQ courses can lead to the following qualifications: Single Session Qualification, Part 1 Qualification, Part 2 Qualification, Specialist Qualification.

For Co-operative Education, Part I, each candidate will develop a curriculum, using a Co-operative Education methodology, for implementation in his/her subject of teaching specialization. Principles of negotiating the conditions of satisfactory out-of-school learning experience with other educators, parents, community representatives or work site personnel will be considered. The practical activities form an integral part of this course.

First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Studies, Part I is designed to provide a critical exploration of current professional practices and pedagogies with regard to the traditional knowledge and histories from First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples.

The French as a Second Language, Part I course is designed to introduce learners to methods used currently for the teaching of French in English-speaking Ontario schools. The audio-visual techniques and the oral-aural approach are stressed. Through a structural review, a systematic effort is made to improve learners' fluency in spoken French and their accuracy in the written form. The practical activities form an integral part of this course.

The Guidance and Career Education, Part I course provides an introduction to school counselling, child development, counselling theories and interpersonal skills. The practical activities form an integral part of this course.

The Integration of Information and Computer Technology in Instruction, Part I course provides an overview of the uses of computers in education. The course's central themes relate to teaching about computers and teaching with the aid of a computer. The course draws examples from a variety of subject areas in both the elementary and secondary panels. The practical activities form an integral part of this course.

The Intermediate Curriculum and Instruction - English course is specifically designed for certificated teachers in any but the intermediate division. Human development theories, curricular policies and guidelines, and teaching strategies and practices in English, as they apply to the intermediate division, are analyzed.

The Intermediate Curriculum and Instruction - Family Studies course is specifically intended for certified teachers. A study of theoretical foundations of Family Studies in the intermediate division, including program planning and implementation, the learning environment, and current legislation and policy.

The Intermediate Curriculum and Instruction - Geography course is specifically designed for certificated teachers in any but the intermediate division. Human development theories, curricular policies and guidelines, and teaching strategies and practices in Geography, as they apply to the intermediate division, are analyzed.
