Knowledge of other languages is essential in Canada and in the rest of the world. Every year, the world becomes smaller as the economic and cultural ties linking one country with another mature. In Canada itself, the ability to communicate well in French as well as other languages is becoming necessary in more and more professions. The Department of Languages reflects these realities by providing training through the Certificate in International Languages consisting of French, Finnish, German, Italian, Mandarin, and Spanish.
